You ever feel like there’s too much stuff out there and you are not sure what you are in the mood for, so you end up scrolling and searching and by that time, your meal is over. Sucks, right? That’s why I have my all-time favourite comfort movies. So if I am ever in doubt, I just play them. My list keeps changing, but right now these 6 movies are on my feel-good, comfort watch.

6. Identity Thief-

This Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy movie is a fun and easy watch when you want to relax and not think much about it. It tells the story of Sandy whose identity has been stolen by a female con-artist (it was easy for her because he has a gender neutral name). Now he must catch up to this thief , go across the country to find her as he is on a deadline and his family’s future is at stake. It’s not a very bright movie but it’s better than most for a background watch.

5. We’re the Millers-

Like the previous two, it is a popular movie about an assembled family who goes to Mexico under pretence to smuggle drugs. Sudeikis character is a small time dealer who becomes the not so responsible patriarch of the family. Jennifer Aniston is his stripper turned wife, Emma Roberts is the homeless daughter and Will Poulter is his son who lives next door to him. It is a goofy road trip movie. Although the plot is predictable yet the unexpected detours they have to take become the best part of the movie. So if you like quirky, funny movies with a warm touch, this one is your comfort watch.

4. Horrible Bosses-

This one has been on my list for quite a long time. I mean, who doesn’t have horrible thoughts about their horrible bosses but are too chicken to act on them? But in this movie the trio Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis decide to do something about them and hatch a plan to off their horrible bosses who are Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell respectively. As expected, whatever plan they make is expected to go haywire because otherwise it wouldn’t be funny. Anyways, it is a super funny comedy with Charlie Day’s character even becoming meme material. I highly recommend you watch it if you like chaotic feel good comedies. I also liked its sequel, Horrible Bosses 2. While Sequels rarely surpass the original ones I think this one was not so bad. Chris Pine is such a nuisance and really fun to watch. Critics are not particularly a fan of the movie . As to me, I watch it solely for Chris Pine. Still not over his Princess Diaries era.

3. Bullet Train-

I feel this movie did not get the hype it deserved. The music, the visuals, everything worked well with this one. The casting carried the weight of the movie. Brad Pitt, codenamed Ladybug is hired by unknown clients to perform shady tasks and 95% of this movie takes place inside the bullet train. Other cast members include Aaron Taylor-Jonson, Joey king, Bad Bunny and Sandra Bullock. To say the movie is extravagant would be an understatement. It is a full on riot. It is brutal, gory, funny, messy and hilarious all at the same time. It is not a laid back movie like the others in my list but I still love to watch it every time.

2. Clueless-

I love most of the movies Paul Rudd is in so this had to be in my list. Plus, Alicia Silverstone is fantastic. Clueless is soft, stylish and feel-good. There’s no emotional heaviness, no complicated twists—just pure, sparkly chaos wrapped in iconic outfits. Silverstone plays Cher, a  confident, kind-hearted though a little misguided girl living in her own perfectly curated world. You don’t watch clueless for the plot or the twists or even the characters although they are all so shiny, you watch it for the vibes. But what qualifies it as a comfort watch is that beneath all that glossy surface there’s genuine care, growth, and those little moments of self-realization that sneak up on you. You see Cher becoming more aware, more grounded, and more herself.

1. Easy A-

This is for when you want something light, witty, and weirdly reassuring. Even if you put it as a background watch, you would want to watch all of the scenes. Emma Stone plays Olive, a smart, awkward girl with the coolest parents who is too embarrassed to admit she spends most of her time in her room. She starts a rumour about herself and soon enough she is the fallen women, the “whore” of her school wearing the scarlet letter as a badge of honour but who also has the power to redeem the outcasts and nerds of her school. The situation doesn’t feel stressful, it feels oddly empowering. It works as a comfort watch because it reminds you that mistakes, rumors, and awkward phases don’t define you forever. Life can be messy, people can misunderstand you—but you can still own your story, laugh about it, and come out stronger.

So this was my list for comfort watch. You are not meant to watch these movies for the plot, the storytelling or the twists. You watch them because they feel familiar and are pure escapist fantasies so you don’t have to think twice before pressing the play button.
