I have written a post on the best book covers and I have written a post on some of the worst ones. This time I wanted to write a post on AI generated book covers. What can I tell you? I love book covers and I like discussing them. Although I do think that nothing can match the beauty and authenticity of the book covers created by artists, generating them through AI is a fun way to interact with your favourite books. That’s why, I asked Chatgpt (with few specifications) to create 7 book covers of my favourite books and these are the results. Rate these covers in the polls and have fun!
- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte- It captures the innocence and simplicity of Jane. The dark and mysterious Thornfield Hall looming in the background looks romantic and beautiful in a brooding way.

2. 1984 by George Orwell- This book is one of my all-time favourites. While the cover is spot on, it’s not so unique. A lot of covers available in the market look similar to this one with the all-seeing eye, the surveillance camera and the red background. Still, I like its direct and clear format.

3. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky- I love this one. The strokes seem Van Gogh-y, also capturing the sadness characteristic of his art. The blood dropping down from the fingers is such a cool detail to put on the cover conveying the sense of guilt and Raskolnikov’s tortured soul.

4. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas- It’s so elegant. Dantes is around the age during which most of the action takes place in the book. He is neither too young nor too old. The ship sailing in the background provides a glimpse into the book’s plot .

5. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery- The house looks cute. AI got all the details right: Anne’s red hair, her holding flowers and looking hopefully at the house that is about to be her new home. The bright colours in the cover bring out the cheerfulness of her character emphasizing her high-spirited nature.

6. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte- The colour scheme, the lonely house in the moors and the barren tree perfectly capture the spirit of this gothic and haunted tale.

7. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez- I like the leafy and natural theme for the cover since nature serves as a major driving force of the novel. I do wish it would have been more complex and have included some other major parts of the book.

Do you think AI will do a better job in creating book covers than humans or do you prefer the authentic human touch in your beloved literary works? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
