Netflix’s ‘Nobody Wants This,’ starring Adam Brody and Kristen Bell, premiered on September 26, 2024, and quickly climbed the charts to become one of the platform’s most unexpected hits. The rom-com returns with Season 2 on October 23, 2025, and fans are already buzzing. Inspired by creator Erin Foster’s real-life love story, the series follows Joanne, an agnostic relationship podcaster who falls for Noah, a devoted but unconventional rabbi fresh out of a long-term relationship. As an avid rom-com watcher, I found this show to be a complete delight. With so many cookie-cutter romances streaming on Netflix, Nobody Wants This stands out for its wit, relatability, and lack of unnecessary melodrama. So here’s my take on what worked for this show and what to expect from season 2:

A Stellar Cast That Truly Delivers

Casting alone doesn’t always guarantee success, but in the case of Nobody Wants This, it’s the cherry on top. Adam Brody and Kristen Bell share undeniable on-screen chemistry.  Brody, once the internet’s beloved Seth Cohen, now brings a mature, grounded charm that feels even more irresistible. Bell, meanwhile, has a magnetic presence and lights up every scene with her sharp, quirky, and refreshingly straightforward personality. The supporting cast makes the series even richer: Justine Lupe as Joanne’s sister Morgan, Timothy Simons as Noah’s brother Sasha, and Jackie Tohn as Esther add a whole new flavour to the show’s brilliant casting. And Season 2 promises even more fun with the arrival of Leighton Meester (Brody’s real-life wife) and Miles Fowler, setting the stage for new dynamics and plenty of fresh drama.

Depiction of a Healthy Relationship

One of the biggest reasons Nobody Wants This stands out is its beautifully non-toxic portrayal of love. Finally, a show where you can swoon over a healthy relationship without cringing at manipulative drama. It is as dreamy as it is realistic. There are no endless games, no unnecessary lies, and no exhausting misunderstandings. Instead, Noah listens to Joanne’s insecurities, acknowledges her fears, and reassures her—reminding viewers that real love thrives on communication and respect. Of course, their story isn’t without challenges. The real tension lies in Noah’s devotion to his role as a rabbi and Joanne’s reluctance about faith and conversion. Season 1 was all about new love jitters but season 2 will see the transition from meet-cute to real relationship challenges, which makes it all the more exciting to watch.

The Supporting Characters Add Real Charm

Beyond Joanne and Noah’s love story, Nobody Wants This shines because of its quirky, well-written supporting characters. Joanne’s sister Morgan isn’t exactly thrilled about her relationship with Noah, convinced the two are just too different. Yet, in an unexpected twist, Morgan strikes up a reluctant but oddly heartwarming friendship with Noah’s towering, eccentric brother Sasha. While the show briefly hints at a possible romantic tension between them, it wisely leaves that thread unexplored. Honestly, their friendship dynamic is sort of serves as character development for both of them. Plus, Sasha is happily married and terrorized by his wife, Esther, so hopefully, Season 2 will continue to explore Morgan and Sasha’s unlikely friendship rather than forcing romance, because their platonic arc is already one of the most satisfying parts of the series.

Esther, on the other hand, is a character who grows on you. She seemingly appears to be a villainish character who doesn’t want Noah to date Joanne but she is actually a lot more complex. She loves her husband and daughter and is loyal to her best-friend, Rebecca (Noah’s ex). She is a mouthy, intense woman who struggles with liking Joanne and being loyal to her best-friend. Yes, she can be unreasonable and has her faults, but that’s what makes her feel real—flawed, complicated, and human. I feel Esther, as a character has a lot of potential to, and Season 2 has the perfect chance to show us how she continues to evolve.

Family Dynamics That Steal the Show

Joanne’s family is its own version of eccentric. She has a father who is gay and a mother who is still in love with him. Despite their own issues, they welcome Noah warmly, adding light-hearted humor to the story. Noah’s Jewish family is tight-knit with an overbearing mother who has gone on crisis mode since Noah has fell under the clutches of a ‘shiksa’ (a hot, blonde, non-jew). She’d much rather see Noah rekindle things with his ex, a picture-perfect Jewish woman who ticks all the boxes. It is fun to see her and Joanne’s interactions as Joanne tries to impress her so hard but ultimately fails. And with Season 2 set to dive deeper into family pressures, loyalties, and expectations, we can expect even more fireworks—and maybe a surprising shift in how these families learn to navigate love and acceptance.

And finally—Joanne’s wardrobe deserves its own spotlight. From the striking red dress look she wears to Noah’s temple to her effortlessly chic t-shirt-and-jeans combos, every outfit feels like an extension of her personality. Her style isn’t just fashion—it’s character storytelling at its finest. And with Season 2 on the horizon, fans can expect her fashion game to evolve—bolder, sharper, and just as swoon-worthy as her love story.

This show has already stolen hearts with its wit, charm, and refreshingly real take on love. With Season 2 just around the corner, what are you most excited to see? Drop your thoughts in the comments, I’d love to hear from you.
